Catnip is the a perennial herb related to the mint family. It is a weed like mint which is native in America. Nepetalactone is the main ingredient in it. It is non addictive and safe for cats.
It is not always, every cat reacts to catnip ,there are cats who don't respond to it also.

Every cat does not respond to it .kittens respond more to cat nip in relation to senior cats. Senior cats do not respond to it much or rather they don't respond at all .
The reaction of cat nips is there for only few minutes. Cats get adapt to it and takes about an hour or two to get away from it to reset , but it can occur again.
