Kittens are cute and fun to be with. There are different breeds of cats like Persian, Siamese, Manx, etc. Calico Cats for some people is a breed of a cat. It is not actually true. Calico cat is not a breed, it's the colouration in them. Calico cats have a type of colour pattern on their body due which they have been given a name.
Normally they have red/orange, black or white colour patterns, but it can even vary at times they can even have blue, grey white or cream colours and are called diluted Calico.
It is always said that Calico's are always female which is again not true. As answer to this is in the genetics of the cat. Breeding of Calico is very tough. In calico cats there are two chromosomes that is XX or XY. The mother cats passes X chromosome on to her kittens and the father cat passes either X or Y chromosomes. If the kitten receives Y, then the composition would be like XY and it would be a male.
A Calico cat has two X chromosomes, one X carries the orange characteristic and the other black or non orange, and if there are XX chromosomes it is said to be a Calico and rather it would be a female Calico.
