There are 9 federally recognized Indian Tribes in South Dakota. They are
Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe: they are the descendants of Tetons Division of Great Sioux Nation. It is considered home for 4 bands namely Minneconjou, Sans Arc, Blackfoot (sihasapa), two kettles (Oohenumpa). It is located at Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in north central South Dakota. The language by the tribal people is Lakota. It's a great travel destination as tourist can enjoy the great scenic beauty and wildlife which is abundant. It offers some of the finest hunting and fishing in the area. One can also enjoy the water sports activities. There are beach areas and boat ramps for water sports and fishing. Crow Creek: They are the descendants of two divisions of Dakota and Nakota people. They are located at Crow Creek Indian Reservation in central South Dakota. Visitors enjoy boating fishing, swimming camping along the water edge. The Tribes wildlife department also offers fishing and hunting trips.
Flandreau-Santee Sioux Tribe: It is located in the parts of south eastern South Dakota and has its headquarters at Flandreau on the Big Sioux River, which provides the opportunities like fishing, swimming, canoeing. List of hotels available:
Lower Brule Sioux Tribe: Is located on the western bank of Missouri river in South Dakota. They are descendants of Sicangu (which means burnt thigh) one of the bands of Lakota Tribes. Wildlife Management Department provides some of the finest hunting and fishing trips. One can enjoy the water sports as well. Golden Buffalo motel is very famous.
Oglala Sioux Tribe: It means scatter in ones owns in Lakota Language. It is the second largest reservations in United States. It is the part of Great Sioux Nation. Visitors can enjoy the colourful history and heritage as it is surrounded by the Badlands National Park. Lakota Prairie Ranch & Resort is one of the famous places for visitors to stay.
Rosebud Sioux tribe: is located in south central South Dakota. They are descendants of Sicangu (burnt thighs) one of the bands. Visitors can discover the rich culture and heritage of the land.
Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota Nation: It is located in the Tribal Lands in north-eastern South Dakota. Its tribal office is located at Agency Village, near Sisseton. The accommodation facility is available, some of them are:
Standing Rock Sioux Tribe: It is located in north and South Dakota; the people of this tribes are called Sioux and are members of Dakota and Lakota Nations.
